The Brief
Get ready for an immersive cinematic experience that extends beyond the final scene. The Animation Guys collaborated with One Mind Media on the sci-fi short film Dissimulation, a gripping murder mystery set in a futuristic world where robots and humans coexist, and not always peacefully. To complement the film’s atmosphere and tie everything together, we created a one-minute animated film credits sequence for the end credits that acts as a continuation of the story, rather than just a list of names.
Our Response
The film’s narrative, rich in suspense and intrigue, called for a creative approach that would keep the audience engaged until the very last moment. Rather than opting for a traditional scrolling names we brought the concept of a detective’s investigation wall to life with animated film credits , a visual metaphor that aligns with the film’s themes of mystery, deduction, and hidden truths. The result is an animated journey through an “evidence wall,” where sticky notes, photographs, red string, and film stills piece together the clues left behind in the story.
Style Development
In the early stages of development, we explored a range of visual directions to find the right style that would resonate with both the film’s tone and the audience. After testing several approaches, we ultimately landed on Style 3, a vibrant, colourful design that brought energy and contrast to the gritty, noir-inspired world of Dissimulation. Although the film itself has a darker tone, the choice to incorporate colour into the end credits helped create visual distinction while still maintaining thematic consistency.
The use of real assets from the film, including character photos, scene stills, and production imagery, further grounds the animated credits sequence within the world of Dissimulation. Combined with our stylised visual treatment, it adds a layer of authenticity and connection to the narrative.
This project was a true creative collaboration between The Animation Guys and One Mind Media. Our goal was not only to deliver a beautifully crafted animation but to enhance the overall storytelling experience for the audience. The animated film credits sequence serves as a final narrative touchpoint, a visual puzzle that echoes the mystery and discovery woven throughout the film.
We’re proud to have been part of such a unique project, pushing the boundaries of how animation can complement and elevate film storytelling, even in the final moments.
