In a world where every brand is fighting for attention, standing out from the crowd can often feel like an uphill battle. But when it comes to getting your brand noticed, making your audience laugh should never be underestimated.

Humor is a powerful tool. It’s what wins over your hot date, helps you bond with friends, and, most importantly, drives impressive results. When done right, comedy creates an emotional connection with your audience that can pay off in dividends. But many brands are failing to use it effectively.

So, if you are looking to get the last laugh in your next campaign, here’s how a comedy animation can help.

The Science of Laughter and Why Humor Sticks

Humans are emotional beings, and humor taps directly into this. As the famous saying goes, people may not remember what you said, but they’ll remember how you made them feel – and people like to feel good.

But don’t just take our word for it, as it’s all down to science.

When something makes us laugh our body releases endorphins, which triggers a positive association in our brain with the source of said humor. This means that funny content tends to stick with us.

If you can make your audience laugh, you increase the likelihood that they will remember your brand and engage with it again and again, because it gives people that feel good factor.

Why Funny Campaigns Succeed

Comedy is about connection. When you hear a great joke or see a funny meme, your first instinct is to share it with the next person.

A funny advertising campaign won’t just make your audience laugh, it will encourage them to share it with their family, friends, and followers, amplifying your brand’s reach.

And the numbers don’t lie.

90% of people prefer brands that are funny, and this jumps to 94% among Gen Z and Millennials. While, 72% of consumers would choose a brand that uses humor over its competitors

So, funny really does pay.

But humor can be tricky and it’s easy to miss the mark. It’s why many brands shy away from being funny even though it is such an effective marketing tool.

That’s where professional comedy animation studios like ours come in.

We handle the heavy lifting, from the creative idea to the final product, ensuring that your brand’s humor is always on point.

Whether through funny characters, slapstick animation, or clever visual gags, comedy animation can add a unique and engaging layer to your brand’s messaging.

Tips for Creating Funny Content

While we all like to think we’re comedians, creating funny content isn’t just about cracking jokes, but about crafting humour and stories that resonate with your audience.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when creating content:

  1. Know Your Audience: Understanding what makes your audience tick and what they will find amusing is key, otherwise your jokes are guaranteed to land flat.
  2. Be Relatable: Use scenarios and characters that your audience can see themselves in. This is where humour really works and creates the biggest connection. If people don’t understand or can’t relate, then they simply won’t find it funny.
  3. Be Current: Content moves so fast nowadays, and you don’t want to be caught jumping on the bandwagon after the train (or joke) has already left the station. Ensure that the humour is fresh and relevant and not a joke your dad would come up with.
  4. Test Your Material: Not all jokes land (as our founder Jay well knows). So test your content with your target audience when you can to see whether you are on the right track before launching it to the masses.

Better Journeys Home

Helping people get home safely following a boozy night out, this campaign for Absolut Vodka featured Roman Kemp and his friends sharing their hilarious nighttime tales of making it home after dark. With authentic storytelling and quirky character animation, this project delivered on humor while driving home a very important message.

EV App Explainer Video

Using detailed hand-drawn animation, we brought to life some wacky characters to introduce the Bonnet app to EV drivers. Addressing the very real pain point of struggling to find a charging station for your car, we added a splash of humor to demonstrate just how easy locating an EV charging station can be with the app.

Characterful Fintech Explainer Video

Making DevOps and fintech more accessible with a 1950s-inspired cartoon, this project for Norwegian software brand Kosli took retro style and satirical humor to break down the company’s complex services for its customers. The explainer video delivers Kosli’s offerings in a way that’s both easy to understand and instantly engaging.

FreshMovement Brand Film

Another one of our brand animation explainer videos, this time for innovative marketing consultancy FreshMovement. They were looking for a video that reinforced their ‘fresh’ approach to marketing.

This project transformed complex ideas into simple, engaging visuals and storytelling with some funny puns thrown in for good measure. The result was a visually striking and humorous animation that captures the very essence of what this brand has to offer.

2D Animated Cat

This funny short uses slapstick animation and a very relatable situation for cat owners. Anyone with a pet cat will be all too familiar with this scenario or something similar. Through fun sound effects and the cat’s knowing facial expression, we created a YouTube short that’s the perfect social media animation, guaranteed to be shared.

The Horrors of Hidden Water

Taking inspiration from classic animated horror films like The Blob, this film was featured as part of a sustainability event we held with our good friends at Radioville

By using a playful, vintage horror aesthetic that doesn’t take itself seriously, we avoided sounding too preachy, when delivering our important point about water consumption.

After all, nobody likes being lectured to, but we all like to have a chuckle – and that’s exactly what we did with this project.

Because in the end, it’s all about making people feel good.
